'Pop Idols - Portugal' Uses EVT System for Tele-Voting

Often, huge call volumes dictate the use of multiple, networked voice systems.  In late 2004, EVT completed the development and installation of a high performance interactive voice system for a commercial customer in Lisbon, Portugal.  The system, one of the largest Asterisk open-source telephony installations in existence, is the first of its kind written to support the large call volumes typical of media call-in, and at a new level of price/performance.

The system handles 1800 simultaneous callers for multiple shows and promotions, and supports efficient updates of external databases used to permit near-real-time web access by television station personnel.

Among other shows, the system implements call-in televoting for the popular Idolos TV program (Pop Idols - Portugal).

The use of the Linux operating system, multi-node hardware, and software written in 'C' and Perl enables this platform to handle peak call volumes of 600,000 new calls per hour.
